Bijzonder lector Functioneel herstel bij kankerMartijn Stuiver (12-01-1973) is in 1997 afgestudeerd als fysiotherapeut aan de Hogeschool van Amsterdam. Sinds datzelfde jaar is hij verbonden aan het Antoni van Leeuwenhoek, aanvankelijk als fysiotherapeut, en tegenwoordig als senior onderzoeker bij het Centrum voor Kwaliteit van Leven van het AVL. Naast zijn werk in het AVL heeft hij verscheidene andere betrekkingen gehad, waaronder in de eerstelijns fysiotherapiepraktijk. Tussen 2003 en 2006 heeft hij in dienst van Avans+ te Breda (toen: Hogeschool Brabant bedrijfsopleidingen) de eerste oncologiefysiotherapie opleiding in Nederland opgezet.
Vanaf 2005 volgde Martijn Stuiver de universitaire master Evidence Based Practice aan het AMC, die hij in 2007 cum laude afrondde. Aan deze opleiding is hij sinds 2009 verbonden als universitair docent, en heden als adjunct opleidingsdirecteur. Zijn werkzaamheden als universitair docent, onderzoeker en fysiotherapeut combineerde hij met een promotieonderzoek naar morbiditeit na lymfklierdissectie bij patiënten met kanker, waarop hij in 2014 promoveerde aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam (promotores: prof. dr. Neil Aaronson, hoogleraar kwaliteit van leven bij chronische en levensbedreigende aandoeningen, en prof.dr. Patrick Bossuyt, hoogleraar klinische epidemiologie).
Als bestuurslid van de stichting Onconet (www.onconet.nu) probeert Stuiver de kwaliteit en toegankelijkheid van fysiotherapeutische zorg voor het behouden of herstellen van fysieke fitheid rondom de behandeling voor kanker te bevorderen. Hiertoe registreert Onconet fysiotherapeuten die voldoen aan specifieke eisen voor scholing en nascholing binnen de oncologie. Onconet draagt ook bij aan de inhoudelijke vormgeving van die scholing, in samenwerking met het Nederlands Paramedisch instituut.
