Lector Network CulturesGeert Lovink is mediatheoreticus en internetcriticus. Zijn lectoraat werd midden 2004 omgedoopt tot het Institute of Network Cultures (www.networkcultures.org) waar onderzoek wordt gedaan naar online video, sociale media, zoekmachines, verdienmodellen en de creatieve industrie.
In 2004 kreeg Lovink een dubbele aanstelling bij de Hogeschool van Amsterdam als lector bij de opleiding Interactieve Media (nu Communication and Multimedia Design) en als associate professor bij de Universiteit van Amsterdam, Mediastudies (tot 1-9-2013).
Lovink is ook professor Mediatheorie aan de European Graduate School in Saas-Fee (Zwitserland) en is verbonden aan het Centre for Digital Culture van de Leuphana-Universitt in Lneburg (Duitsland). Zijn recente boeken zijn Zero Comments uit 2007 en Networks Without a Cause uit 2012, beide verschenen in het Engels, Duits en Italiaans.
Zijn promotie deed Lovink aan de Universiteit van Melbourne en hij werkte als postdoc bij de University of Queensland.
