mw.  N. Cila (Nazli)

onderzoeker lectoraat Digital Life

Dr. Nazli Cila is researcher at the Digital Life Centre research group of Center for Applied Research Create-IT at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences and is specialized in research on the designing the agencies of smart products and posthuman perspectives in design.

Research

Nazli’s research focus is on the agency of AI- and IoT-enabled products. During her postdoc, she worked on a framework to critically analyze and discuss the use of smart agents in everyday life (e.g. health monitors, civic apps, home robots, and so on), develop tools and methods for designing the agency of things (e.g. thing-centered ethnographies, object personas). Her current research, funded by SIA, focuses on designing the behavior of smart agents for appropriate, pleasant, and aesthetic interactions. She investigates and demonstrates how collaborations could be built between human and nonhuman agents, identify challenges that may arise from their coexistence, and create scenarios for possible interactions.

Current research projects

Nazli is currently working on the research project “Smart Products for Human Empowerment”, funded by the SIA HBO Postdoc grant, in collaboration with the Digital Life Centre and Play & Civic Media research groups.

Current teaching activities

The current teaching activities of Nazli include coordinating and teaching the Design Research track of the Master Digital Design program.

Education

Nazli graduated in 2008 at Middle East Technical University on MSc. Industrial Design. In 2013, she obtained her PhD in Industrial Design at TU Delft, under supervision of Prof. dr. Paul Hekkert.

Previous activities

From 2013 to 2015, Nazli was a postdoc researcher at TU Delft where she worked on thing ethnographies and data-driven design. In 2018, she was a research fellow at the AMS Institute.
