Introduction

In September 2022 the first co-creation session will take place in Amsterdam. This co-creation session has two aims:

  • Inspiration: to share practices, experiences and insights from each participant in creating inclusive school communities in school;
  • Co-creation: to test and validate the first conceptual frameworks and outlines that can support the development of the toolbox during the next two years.

Inclusive school communities

The co-creation session is organised by the ERASMUS+ project Co-Creating Inclusive School Communities that aims to support schools to strengthen inclusive school communities by developing a social environment in which every participant is welcomed, respected, valued and given a voice and that embraces and appreciates diversity in culture, religion, gender, ability or socio-economic background. Main aim of the project is to develop a toolbox that can support actors within the school to strengthen their awareness and understanding regarding inclusive school communities, to support them in evaluating the inclusiveness of their school community and so to help them to identify, select and implement possible next steps for action. Through the use of the toolbox, schools are supported to address four fundamental questions regarding the level of inclusiveness within the school:

  • What are the characteristics of inclusive school communities?
  • What are inspiring examples of inclusive school communities? What does it look like in practice?
  • How inclusive is our school community?
  • What can we do to strengthen the inclusiveness of our school community?

Co-creation a toolbox

To develop a toolbox that is of added value to schools and applicable in a variety of contexts and countries, it is essential that the process of developing the tools is collaborative and inclusive in itself. For that reason, we have chosen to develop the toolbox in close collaboration with schools from different countries through a process of international co-creation and testing in national contexts. Within each of the countries of the consortium partners, one to three partner schools will participate by sharing good practices, participating in the co-creation process and testing draft tools within their school.
During the course of the project (November 2021 to October 2024) we scheduled three international co-creation sessions:

  • September 2022 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands
  • April 2023 online
  • April 2024 in Tallinn, Estonia
