Digital Design. Master's, full-time

Do you wish to advance in your digital design strategy, leadership and process? Do you embrace experimentation and have the ability to think outside design rules and conventions? Do you believe in design as an agent of change? This Master of Science programme seeks to educate (design) professionals who create, adapt, and apply design processes into interactive digital products, while driven by an ethical perspective on people, profit, and planet.

Our full-time, one-year programme was co-founded by the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) and nine leading Dutch design agencies. Through our unique skill-set combo of academia, industry and stakeholders, we provide you with the skills to become the design leader of tomorrow.


Our one-year full-time programme is based in bustling Amsterdam - home to several of the world's leading design agencies. The Master of Science programme in Digital Design is centred around four main areas of expertise: Literacy, Research, Creation and Strategy. It also involves three projects, as well as a closing exhibition. During your study, you'll work on exciting real-life design briefs in a studio setting. You'll be equally in close contact with top professionals from renown design agencies and creative studios.

At the Master's programme we value applicable skills that enable students to make a difference in professional settings directly after their graduation; we aim to provide future-proof skills. As a graduate from the Master's programme in Digital Design, you’ll able to work in a variety of settings in both creative and academic worlds. Roles include: Digital Design Strategist, User Researcher, Design Team Leader, Creative Director, among others. Some of our graduates have gone to work in prominent companies, including, Dept Agency, MediaMonks, Bugaboo, TomTom, Worrell, Grrr, and more.

Admission criteria

To be eligible for the Master’s programme in Digital Design, you must hold a Bachelor's degree (or an equivalent international title) and demonstrate previous design experience (minimum of three years) through an annotated portfolio in areas such as Interaction Design, Product Design, UI Design, among others. If you don’t fulfil the desired minimum work experience, you may still apply by presenting an outstanding design portfolio produced outside a school setting. The Master Digital Design has a limit of 48 students and employs a selection procedure.

Apply for entry

As an ideal applicant, you have at least 3 years of professional experience in a design setting and are critical about the way (digital) design impacts the world. Enrol no later than 1 May via using your DigiD. Allow at least three working days to receive your DigiD. International students can create a Studielink-account without a DigiD. After enrolling, you must complete the mandatory study check. The faculty will send you an invitation for the check, and issue you with a recommendation regarding your choice of degree programme.
