Business Responses to a sustainability-induced transition

in energy markets

Project

The role and impact of business in this sustainability-induced transition process is of great importance, given the powerful position of companies in key industries at the heart of this transition process.

This includes companies in the energy industries, as well as companies in a number of industries that develop and market energy-related products and services. Earlier research by the candidate in this field has shown that the established companies in the energy sectors are not necessarily driving this sustainability-induced transition process due to conflicting interests, given that their business model and core business activities have been built around fossil energy supply for decades. Hence, the role that companies from other energy-related industries have in this market transition process through their products and services is essential as well. To research the role of business in a sustainability-induced transition in energy markets, this research project therefore focuses on business responses to this transition process within the energy sector as well as energy-related sectors.
