Arjan is lecturer and researcher within the Aviation Academy, and leads a research programme focused on developing new methods for process optimization in small and medium MRO’s. His expertise is in MRO and more specifically the application of improvement methodologies such as LEAN, Six Sigma and TOC within this sector. Arjan also teaches MRO-related courses with special focus on senior students.
Arjan obtained a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Oregon State University in 2002, after which he held various positions within the Airline and MRO sector. He started off as an Avionics Engineer with KLM Engineering & Maintenance and quickly moved on to VLM Airlines where he was responsible for engine maintenance, and finally became Engineering Manager for the VLM Technics facility in Antwerp, Belgium. He returned to the Netherlands in 2008 to become one of the Maintenance Managers for JetNetherlands, a small business jet operator based out of Amsterdam Airport. In late 2009 he switched careers and became part of the university’s teaching and research programme.
