Entrepreneurship College - The SDG Edition #3

HvA en KIT collegereeks duurzaamheidsdoelen in het SDG House

Evenement

On a monthly basis, lectures are organized around the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. Every session we invite different guest speakers: academic experts and entrepreneurs working in the field of the SDGs. We will discuss root causes, challenges, relevant theories and important stakeholders, and above all the role of innovation and entrepreneurship to contribute to the realisation of the SDGs.

SDG 2: zero hunger

On the 8th of November Bram Jansen will give us an introduction to SDG 2: Zero Hunger. One out of four people still goes hungry in Africa. So what targets should we reach in 2030 to tackle hunger and malnutrition? And what is the current state of affairs? Jansen, researcher and lecturer at Wageningen University, is an adventurous anthropologist by heart who has done a great deal of research in the Horn of Africa. On the 8th, he will share his knowledge and experiences regarding Zero Hunger.

Second speaker

Our second guest speaker, Maaike Groot – Manager Public Affairs at East-West Seed, demonstrates the importance of the SDGs, and SDG2 in particular, in entrepreneurial practices. East-West Seed produces high quality tropical vegetable seeds and shares technical knowledge on farming practices, in order to increase food security and income of vegetable farmers and their families. East-West Seed, established in 1982 in the Philippines, has grown in 25 years into the market-leading supplier of tropical vegetable seeds.

Hosted by Remy Gieling

The lecture will be hosted by Remy Gieling, chief editor of Sprout. An online platform with knowledge, inspiration, background info and news about startups and scaleups with impact.
