The Sustainable Development Goals
Connecting Today, Creating Tomorrow
During the 2015 Social Good Summit, 193 world leaders committed to achieving 17 Sustainable Development Goals by year 2030. The Global Goals Jam is an initiative of the United Nations Development Program and the Digital Society School, it seeks to design realistic, actionable interventions for the goals. This year we will focus on the goals:
- 1 No poverty
- 3 Good health and well-being
- 5 Gender equality
- 7 Affordable and sustainable energy
- 11 Sustainable cities and communities.
Each team will have the opportunity to work on relevant challenges provided by our local and international partners such as BOOT, What Design Can Do and BBVA. These partners will be involved in the process and are able to take the solutions further in development after the event.
Beyond being shared in our channels, some of the ideas will be featured at the Social Good Summit in New York. Yours could be one of them!
The Global Goals Jam Amsterdam 2018
The #GlobalGoalsJam is a three-day event consisting of short design sprints. Creative multidisciplinary teams will work together on local challenges, using a tailored design method toolkit provided by the Digital Society School. All teams will create interventions aimed at short-term targets in support of the long-term Sustainable Development Goals.
Delicious and sustainable food will be provided during the event to keep our participants focused and fuelled.
On Friday evening we will kick off the event with a Mic Drop*, drinks and an introduction to the following two days of jamming. This is the perfect time to get to know each other before diving deep into sprint 1.
*A DSS Mic Drop is an inspirational, interactive, provocative master class given by expert researchers and practitioners, on topics that relate to design, tech, societal challenges and how we can make the world a better place by integrating technology more wisely and humanely. This edition will, of course, focus on the SDGs.
On Saturday the work starts. The participants will team-up and start exploring and understanding the topic and then generate ideas to tackle it. By the end of the day, the teams will select one of the many ideas to develop further.
Sunday is a hands-on day! The participants can use the MakersLab of HvA, equipped with 3d printers, laser cutters and tons of creative materials to make the concepts tangible. This way they can test their new ideas and plan how they could be implemented. The day ends with a showcase to share the results of the Jam.
The showcase presentation + Meet up is open to the public. You can also invite friends to see you presenting your solutions for a better world!
